Some EmailMessage object merge fields in classic email templates are not resolved in Lightning Experience

Summary
EmailMessage merge fields inserted into classic email templates are not resolved when the template is used in Lightning Experience.
Repro
1. Create a classic email template and add some EmailMessage merge fields to the template body. e.g (Subject, To Address, From address, Status, Message Date etc.)
2. Mark the template as available for use, add a name and save
3. In classic, Go to a case/ campaign record with an email
4. Reply to the email select the email template
5. Check that merge field {!EmailMessage.Subject} is evaluated in body as well as in subject text box
6. Switch to Lightning Experience and repeat steps 4 and 5
Notice , the merge field is not resolved and subject merge field is not resolved
Workaround
Use the email template in classic
