List View deployment failing with the error "Value too long for field: Name maximum length is:40"
Last updated 2022-02-10 ·Reference W-8178055 ·Reported By 7 users
Standard lists have a 40 characters limit for their Name/Label.
Because of translation features, the standard list's metadata XML might be created with a long translation and then cause the error "Value too long for field: Name maximum length is:40" on deployment.
Using the Metadata API XML.
1. Retrieve the standard list that is causing the deployment to fail. You can do that by retrieving the standard or custom object metadata related to the standard list. XML e.g.:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<label>Alle regels voor geautoriseerde verzekering</label>
2. Try to deploy the same metadata that was previously retrieved and the error will be shown.
One should avoid the deployment of standard lists (Related Lists / List Views) with long translations in the Name/Label.
For that, you can remove the <listViews> from the metadata XML.
