"Invalid sender email address" when sending a survey

"Invalid sender email address" when sending a survey. This happens when the sender email address has greater than 7 characters in the email domain.
1. Add an email address to Org Wide Address that has > 7 characters in the email domain.
2. Create a survey and try using the "Send Email" action ( from the survey builder) with the "From" field as the Org Wide Address created in step #1
3. In the final step of the send wizard, an exception is seen
"Invalid sender email address. Define a valid sender email address in your Salesforce profile or add an org-wide email address in the Email Sender Address field in the Default Settings.""
