Excel Power Query Salesforce login popup is unresponsive.

When authenticating using Power Query in Excel with Salesforce (a Microsoft product), the login box doesn’t respond and users cannot login. Note that their product is often referred to as 'Excel Connector'
1. In Excel navigate to Get Data --> From Online services --> From salesforce object --> Production (Or Sandbox) --> Supply credentials in the authentication pop.
2. The screen will change URLs to …. /login-messages/in/promos.html but stay populated with existibg credentials and Salesforce login is unsuccessful.
As noted also in the forum here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_excel-mso_win10-mso_o365b/power-query-excel-365-to-salesforce-sandbox/f0e2810b-4ac1-4fdc-b188-4ec25b227462?page=5
The current workaround is creating a Registry key to force Excel to emulate IE 11. NOTE: editing the registry incorrectly can cause major problems on the local machine. It is advised to back up the registry, or key your are working on, before making changes. If needed see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/322756/how-to-back-up-and-restore-the-registry-in-windows.
For 32-bit versions of Excel running under 32-bit versions of Windows and 64-bit versions of Excel running under 64-bit versions of Windows, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION here create a new DWORD 32bit value under that key with a name of Excel.exe and a value of 0x2af8 (or decimal 11000)
Or For 32-bit versions of Excel running under 64-bit versions of Windows, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION here create a new DWORD 32bit value under that key with a name of Excel.exe and a value of 0x2af8 (or decimal 11000)
NOTE: If other apps or integrations make Web calls from Excel using different browser emulation this workaround could affect those calls.
