Cannot integrate a Salesforce user that contains a single quote in the username

When trying to integrate and save a username in the Salesforce.com Username field within the Marketing Cloud, if that username contains the ' character, you will receive the following error in the UI:
There was an error communicating with Salesforce, verify your connected app is set up properly and try again.
1. Create a Sales Cloud username that contains the ' character
2. Attempt to integrate a Marketing Cloud User to the created Sales Cloud User
3. Receive the following error: "There was an error communicating with Salesforce, verify your connected app is set up properly and try again."
Currently the Marketing Cloud field to integrate a user does not accept usernames that contain a single quote mark. Remove the quote mark from the username and try again.
