Summary
In a Dataset, if a measure has customFormat XMD defined, and the format contains string in prefix or postfix, then attempts to download the Dataset will result in a corrupted Excel file that cannot be opened.
Repro
1. In Analytics Studio, Edit any Dataset and Download its Extended Metadata (XMD) File.
2. Open the resultant Json file and, in the “measures” section, set the “customFormat” for one of the measures in your Dataset as follows:
"format": {
"customFormat": "[\"EUR #,###,###.00\",1]"
}
3. Save the file and, on your Dataset Edit page, Replace it.
4. Open your Dataset as a Lens, include your measure in a Chart and Save it. Ie Sum of your_measure. Optionally, you can group your data as well to create a “more interesting” Chart.
5. On the More Lens’ option select Share, Download and Download in Excel Format.
6. Open your file in Excel
Workaround
Avoid to include strings in the number format at this time.
