Internal server error occurs when converting a lead to an existing Opportunity or Contact

When Org has Einstein related feature (Engagement Score, Einstein Lead Scoring, Activity Metrics, Opportunity Score) enabled an internal server error occurs when converting a lead to an existing Opportunity or Contact. This can also happen when updating a Lead after converting in same apex context.

Use any Winter 20 org.

Enable EAC feature and Turn On activity Metric under it.

Create a lead, The lead should be associated with ActivityMetricId , and it should have an Account with open opportunity(this is updated in trigger later) which we can choose while converting the lead.

Ensure the opportunity has an ActivityMetricId populated. (Try Query on Developer console with ActivityMetricId to ensure if the Opportunity has ActivityMetricId associated. )

The following trigger on Lead which will update the opportunity Id that is selected as existing opportunity while converting the lead.

Trigger code :-

update op;

Create a workflow on opportunity to run on create and after update.

Convert the lead from UI and select the existing account and opportunity.

You should get an error .

Error :-

There was an error converting the lead. Please resolve the following error and try again: RunOnLeadConvert: execution of AfterUpdate caused by: System.FinalException: Record is read-only Trigger.RunOnLeadConvert: line 5, column 1

Check which of the Einstein related feature is ON (EngagementScore, Einstein LeadScoring, Activity Metrics, Opportunity Score, Email insights ) and disable the feature if it is feasible for the business.
