Home Tab not visible even though is set to Default On in the Profile.

If the Home Tab is not visible in the org but you can see it's set as "Default On" in the profile, you may be affected by this issue.
You may see also the following looking at the Setup Audit Trail in the org:
"Changed profile System Administrator: Home tab was changed from Default On to Tab Hidden".
There is currently an issue with the Metadata API and the Home Tab visibility. If the Home Tab is retrieved via Metadata API, any profile's visibility on it will be "Hidden" instead of "Default On". If you perform a deploy with these settings, the visibility will be changed in the target org but this may not be reflected in the profile UI.
1. Retrieve a profile with access to Home tab and Home Tab (API name: standard-home) via Metadata API (ie. ANT Migration Tool) in the org.
2. Open the retrieved .profile file.
The Home tab visibility is set to Hidden even though it is visible and set to Default On in the UI:
If you are retrieving profile settings using Metadata API, make sure the above Home Tab visibility piece is not included. Otherwise, make sure you set the visibility to "Default On" before deploying.
This is, replace <visibility>Hidden</visibility> by <visibility>DefaultOn</visibility>.
