Lightning for Outlook and Lightning Sync - Support for TLS 1.0
Last updated 2017-04-14 ·Reference W-3032240 ·Reported By 9 users
Summary
With the Summer ‘16 release, integrations called Lightning Sync and Lightning for Outlook (formerly known as Exchange Sync and Salesforce App for Outlook) – will only work if your Microsoft Exchange server has TLS 1.1 and/or TLS 1.2 enabled . If it has only TLS 1.0 enabled, these features will stop working immediately.
Repro
Note that from the Exchange Sync status page (Setup | Lightning Sync | Sync Status), user records will no longer sync and the error "An unexpected error occurred while we were trying to locate your Autodiscover endpoint URL" will show when a "connection test" is carried out. This failure will coincide with the Summer ‘16 release dates for your specific instance.
Workaround
To fix this situation immediately, enable TLS 1.1 and/or 1.2 on your Exchange server. See the "Prepare Your Org to Continue Using Lightning for Outlook and Lightning Sync When TLS 1.0 Disablement Begins in Summer '16" (https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewSolution?urlname=Prepare-Your-Org-to-Continue-Using-Salesforce-App-for-Outlook-and-Exchange-Sync-After-TLS-1-0-Is-Disabled&language=en_US) article for action required.
To align this feature with the general Salesforce TLS 1.0 disablement timelines, support for TLS 1.0 will resume and come back shortly in an upcoming patch, until TLS 1.0 disablement goes into effect for production orgs around March, 2017.
