When creating relationships in Contact Builder, ensure that you create the shortest possible path to attributes essential for use in messaging activities by apps such as Journey Builder and MobileConnect. These activities use the shortest path to an attribute when determining the information used to process activities. If an app can reach the attribute via multiple paths of the same length, Journey Builder chooses the path at random. This often occurs when the same data extension is linked in multiple attribute groups and is more than one relationship deep.
1. Create a new data extension and use a query to move information from the synchronized data source into the new data extension. Ensure you perform this query as often as necessary to use the most recent information possible.
2. Manually create a new attribute group to link to the synchronized data source for use in your messaging activities.
3. Create your message activities, such as decision splits, using event data rather than real-time data.
4. Consider eliminating synchronized data sources you might not need to use in your activities to improve overall performance.
