Analytics - Placeholder datasets appear in Search, cause error on Explore and Edit
Last updated 2021-10-12 ·Reference W-7504697 ·Reported By 3 users
When a dataflow is updated or a change set/package is deployed, placeholder datasets are created. These datasets are metadata containers that do not have any data in them. These placeholders should not be visible in the UI, though they are visible in REST API.
A known issue is allowing these placeholder datasets to appear in Search. They will error if explored or edited.
Illegal value for parameter: 'versionId': null
You no longer have access to this dataset or it has been deleted. To get access, contact the administrator.
In a dataflow, create an sfdcRegister node with a dataset alias that doesn't currently exist.
Update the dataflow, but do not run it.
In Analytics Studio, search for the dataset alias.
If it appears, attempt to explore or edit it.
Note the errors.
Run the dataflow to populated the placeholder dataset with data. This will allow for proper interaction in the UI.
