Enhanced Email: Send an Email from Contact with only Custom Field email throws error

With the feature "Enhanced Email" enabled when a user attempts to send an email from a record that only contains a populated custom email field but no standard email field populated will result in an error:
"Review all error messages below to correct your data. FirstName LastName does not have an accessible email address."
1. Enable Enhanced Email
2. Standard email field is blank & custom email field has email@example.com.
3. Try to send an email and you will see error "SFDC TESTY for email does not have an accessible email address."
4. Add any email address to the standard email field.
5. Try to send email to the work email again.
6. Email will send.
-Disable "Enhanced Email"
-Add an email address to the standard email field
