Please note, this has been identified as an issue on Microsoft's end. Microsoft has released updates to resolve the issue for all currently supported versions of MS Office. At this time, there is no further action Salesforce Support can take other than sharing Microsoft's resolution:
- Reports exported through the "printable view" option are not opened in MS excel correctly. They show a "file is corrupt" dialog.
- Actual Behavior: Opening the exported report shows a "file is corrupt" dialog.
- Expected Behavior: File should open up correctly.
-1. Log in to your org
-2. Create a report and export it as "Printable View"
-3. Open the exported file
-4. Receive the error "The file you are trying to open, 'reportXXXXXX.xls', is in a different format...", then clicked "Yes"
-5. Receive the error: 'The file is corrupt and cannot be opened'

12/14/16: Please visit the following link and update MS Office based on the instructions provided: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Office-Updates-a118ec61-f007-492f-bfa5-5a6f764d5471
12/20/2016: Since MS Office 2010 and older are no longer classified under mainstream support by Microsoft, the above fix does not work on these MS Office versions. We are working with Microsoft on possible solutions for customers using these MS Office versions.
1/13/2017: Per Microsoft, we are expecting the patch fix to be released for Office 2010 to those Microsoft customers who are under extended support for Office 2010. The tentative release time-frame from Microsoft is mid-February. Any further questions regarding this fix and when it will be released should be directed to Microsoft.
