Unknown exception error encountered when attempting to delete account with email in Activity History

Summary
Users may encounter the following error when attempting to delete an account that contains an email within Activity History:
An unknown exception has occurred.
Please contact Salesforce Support to determine if this generic error message is related to an unexposed Internal Server Error with stacktrace ID -254598831 or -118477557.
Repro
1 Create an account
2 Create a contact, choose the account just created as the Account Name
3 Go to the account just created, and click "Send an Email" button
4 Send an email to the contact just created.
Note: The email must be sent to the contact that is related to this account
5 Go back to the account and click "Delete" button
6 Encounter error:
An unknown exception has occurred.
Workaround
