Records missing from search results in sandbox

Some users may notice that searching within a sandbox does not return the expected results. It may return partial results or no results at all. And navigating directly to the expected result does work.
For example, when searching for the name "Jane Doe" the expected contact record is not included in the search results. The contact for Jane Doe can be accessed when navigating to the Contacts tab, or when looking at the associated Account record. Accessing Jane Doe's contact using the Record ID also displays the record with no error.
1. Login to a sandbox.
2. Search for a keyword contained in an existing record.
3. Notice that the expected record does not show in the search results.
You may be able to set up a list view or report on that object to find the expected results until the issue is resolved.
Alternatively, you can reach out to support to investigate a possible re-index.
