Record Detail "Back to List" Links to Wrong List or Disappears

Summary
The "Back to List" link sometimes directs users to a previously viewed object other than the one they were just viewing. Occasionally the "Back to List" link is not visible after clicking into a object record from a list view.
This functionality is dependent on a cookie that is maintained by web browsers. At present, this cookie is only updated when opening a new list view.
If for, example a Recent Item is viewed without clicking "Go" for a full list view, a previously viewed object may appear when "Back to List" is clicked. If the cookie does not exist at all, the link will not appear.
Repro
1. Clear browser cookie.
2. Login to any org.
3. Go to Account tab (/001/o).
4. Click on any record to open a details page, and you'll see the Back to List link missing.
5. Go to Contact tab (/003/o).
6. Click on any record to open a details page, and you'll find Back to List: Accounts showing up.
Workaround
At this time, the most consistent behavior of the "Back to List" link will be seen when records are opened directly from a List View.
