Data Import Wizard results email not consistent with records created/updated

There is an issue at this time where the results email from the Data Import Wizard does not accurately reflect the total number of records created or updated. An example of a typical results email:
Your Accounts and Contacts imports are complete. Here are your results:
Accounts Created: 0
Accounts Updated: 1
Accounts Failed: 0 (We couldn't import these due to errors.)
Processed job information for imported Accounts:
Contacts Created: 0
Contacts Updated: 1
Contacts Failed: 0 (We couldn't import these due to errors.)
Processed job information for imported Contacts:
Perform an import using the Data Import Wizard then compare the total number of records in your csv file with the record counts in the results email.
