Salesforce for Outlook: "There is no email selected" error when adding email with the Side Panel

Adding certain emails through the Salesforce for Outlook side panel gives the error "There is no email selected........."
1. Select an email in a folder in Outlook that you want to add to salesforce.
2. When the Contact or Lead is shown in the side panel use the add email icon to add the mail to the record.
3. Error shown in side panel is "There is no email selected..."
Use Email to Salesforce and add the mail to Saleforce by forwarding or sending the mail to your E2S service address.
