Add Google Doc to Salesforce Browser Button results in Please Log in to Google Apps message

When attempting to use the "Add Google Doc to Salesforce Browser Button" users are directed to a message stating:
"Please Log in to Google Apps
You've just clicked the Add Google Doc to Salesforce browser button. To add a Google Doc to Salesforce, you must be logged into your Google Apps business account. Please share this document with your Google Apps business account or contact your administrator."
This occurs despite whether or not you may be logged into Google.
1. Follow the steps to add the button to your browser's shortcuts or favorites as outlined here:
2. Login to Google and navigate to a document and click the browser shortcut you created in 1.
Users receive a message stating "Please Log in to Google Apps" and are unable to add the Gdoc to Salesforce.
