The 'Show simpler New Task form in Salesforce1' feature causes a GACK error if there is a BLANK space on the activities page layout

Customers will notice that once the 'Show simpler New Task form in Salesforce1' admin option has been enabled for their org that an error message will be shown for the hybrid (downloadable) iOS and Android Salesforce1 users on all Task pages i.e. log a call. This issue was noticed post the Spring '15 release.
This issue is currently slated for correction in the Winter '15 release. (safe harbor)
Customers would see a similar error message such as:
Unfortunately, there was a problem. Please try again. If the problem continues, contact Salesforce Customer Support with the error ID shown here and any other related details.
An internal server error has occurred
Error ID: 1250996381-358583 (-1724821292)
** The ( -1724821292 ) identification should be the key ID **
While logged into the Salesforce1 iOS or Android hybrid application, navigate to a record and try to Log a Call from the actions below
Remove the blank space from the current activities (Tasks) page layout/s
Simply turn OFF the Show simpler New Task form in Salesforce1 preference
