Community users do not receive task reminder pop up notification (reminder window) for past due tasks

For internal users when a task with a set reminder date is passed a pop up notification or Reminder Window is displayed and continuously shows up every time the user logs in.
However, for community users the pop up notification for a task with a past due reminder only occurs once and does not show up again even if the community user's My Settings | Reminders and Alert's preferences are set properly to receive such notifications.
1. Setup community user and assign Home Tab for the Community
2. Login by community user and create a task with passed reminder date
3. Re-Login and confirm reminder is shown up at first.
4. Re-Login and confirm reminder is not shown up second time or later.
