Rename Tabs and Labels: Saving without renaming in step 1 after previously renaming a field results in the field rename being reset.
Last updated 2022-02-10 ·Reference W-1125020 ·Reported By 12 users
Summary
When changing the label in certain foreign languages, after saving the change to one Tab, then clicking on a new Tab, then clicking Save with no changes made - the changes to the first tab are not preserved.
Repro
1. Go to the Rename Tabs and Labels page.
2. Click on the Edit link next to any object that has not previously been renamed.
3. Click Next to go to the second page of the wizard, without making any changes on the first page.
4. Rename a field. Save.
Result: In the list of objects, the "Renamed" checkbox next to the object whose field you just renamed is checked, and there's a last modified stamp, as expected. The new label for the field is displayed at runtime, as expected.
5. Click on the edit link next to this object.
6. Click Save in the first step of the wizard without making any changes.
Result: The Renamed checkbox is unchecked and the last modified stamp is gone, indicating that the renamed field has been reset to its original name. If you click on the Edit link next to the object again and go to the second page of the wizard, the original label is displayed, not the rename. (The original label is displayed at runtime.)
Expected result: The field rename should not be reset, and should remain as it was after step 4.
If you repeat these steps, but in step 5 go to the second page of the wizard then back to the first page before proceeding to step 6, the field rename is preserved.
Workaround
Save the change to the label as necessary and do immediately go into a new tab translation and click "save" while making no changes.
Also, per the repro above:
If you repeat these steps, but in step 5 go to the second page of the wizard then back to the first page before proceeding to step 6, the field rename is preserved.
