Connection reset when downloading a file larger than 1gb from Custom Domain on Edge

When downloading a file larger than 1gb from a Salesforce site on a custom domain hosted on Salesforce Edge, the connection resets prior to completion and it never completes. This only occurs on "slower" connections where the download takes more than a few minutes to complete.
