Allow changes in formula field value to trigger workflow

Process Automation

Currently, if you use a formula field in a workflow trigger criteria, a change in the value of the formula field does not count as a record edit, and will not kick off the workflow. What I would like is to have an option to evaluate formula field values, and if a change is detected to kick off the workflow actions. We currently accomplish this with triggers that "touch" the record enough to cause workflow triggers to evaluate, but it would be great if Salesforce could build this in. Even if it was only once per day, it would still be a huge help.

All, the mechanics of delivering this are very complicated. The use case would require some kind of silent inspection of values at certain times to determine a change, rather than a record modification that kicks off evaluation of the formula. We have delivered the ability to do operations based on formulas in fields, and to evaluate formulas at the time of record creation or update. But the ability to inspect formulas without a trigger will require more investigation, which means this isn't currently on the roadmap. We will be sure to update this space as more information becomes available.
