Support username / password authentication for SMTP Relaying

Identity, Authentication & Privacy

Emails sent from Salesforce on behalf of users are often blocked by spam filters.  Salesforce supports SMTP Relaying (see: https://emea.salesforce.com/help/doc/user_ed.jsp?section=help&target=email_relay.htm&loc=help&hash=topic-title) however the only server authentication method offered is often not permitted for security reasons.

A simple solution would be for Salesforce to also support sending emails using the customer's SMTP server by logging in with the traditional method of username and password.

This would be simple to implement, would immediately work with just about any SMTP server and would at a stroke remove a problem that affects many Salesforce users.
