Expand the Notes field

In Meetings, why is the Notes field limited in characters and the Description field is longer? Intuitively this would be reversed. Description might describe what meeting was about, and the notes from the meeting would go into detail. This doesn't seem like a heavy lift to expand Notes field character limit. Thanks.
