Create Lightning Web Component (LWC) versions of Aura Workspace APIs (Console)

Developer Tools

Updated 12/13/19:

These Aura APIs from the "Workspace Tabs and Subtabs" library are super useful for low-code UI automation in Lightning Console. With more teams wanting an "LWC full stack" implementation, Salesforce should port the APIs to LWC so that customers don't need to wrap LWCs in Aura components.

First Priority

Aura Methods:
  • openTab()
  • closeTab()
  • openSubtab()
  • focusTab()
  • getTabInfo()
  • getAllTabInfo()
  • getFocusedTabInfo()
  • getEnclosingTabId()
  • refreshTab()
  • setTabIcon()
  • setTabLabel()
  • setTabHighlighted()
  • disableTabClose()
  • isSubtab() [Note: In LWC this will be addressed via getTabInfo().]

Aura Events:
  • lightning:tabClosed
  • lightning:tabCreated
  • lightning:tabFocused
  • lightning:tabRefreshed
  • lightning:tabReplaced
  • lightning:tabUpdated

Lower Priority (i.e. later or never - please comment if Aura isn't sufficient for you)
  • isConsoleNavigation()
  • generateConsoleUrl() & openConsoleUrl()
  • getTabURL()
  • addToBrowserTitleQueue() & removeFromBrowserTitleQueue()
