Lightning Report Builder Extremely Slow and Buggy

Operational Reporting

The lightning report builder is extremely slow. Everytime a new field is added or deleted, the blue dots of death spin as the report updates the preview view. I end up switching to classic to build out reports- not really enticing to use lightning!

My company is encouraging us to switch to Lightning, but the slowness of the reports builder is a blocker for transitioning. As described by others, every field edit (even on a narrowly filtered report with the "update preview automatically" turned off) causes the blue circle for anywhere from 5-60 secs. A few times I've had to let it sit for over a minute.

I've tried clearing my Java cache as recommended by our SF admin, but it didn't help.

agree - the name "Lightning Report Builder" is indeed very ironic. It is anything, but Lightning! Even on very decent hardware, updating the Outline takes ages. (Winter 21).

We are now in Winter '21 and this is still a huge problem. It takes forever to build a simple report, in which I get so frustrated from waiting while each field loads after adding/removing, that I just give up and create a report in Classic. There is no way I'll be able to convince my users to use Lightning 100% with this issue still lingering.

This is causing a lot of trouble to our business users and the only option remains is to switch to Classic which is not a good user experience at all when Salesforce is working hard to move towards classic free user experience.A much needed change.

Business finds the report creation much faster since the dragging feature in lightning is cumbersome especially with large reports. Its hard to switch from viewing filters on the left to now the right. There’s more “fluff” with the text and images being larger so the data is harder to read. Business liked being able to see the filters for each report on top without having to open the filter field since they create a few reports a day and want to see what they're looking at.

Awful experience. The Lightning Report Builder feels like a delivery that was done to check off a box in a list. Enormous amount of white space requires constant scrolling, elements in such light text is a strain to read and excruciatingly slow. Previous, our demos to clients always included a "live report build" as a way to really highlight the strengths of platform. After the first attempt in Lightning, where the audience could barely make out what I was projecting, and the time (4 times as long) in took to demo (people started checking their messages and emails), we stopped.
Change is always hard, I get it. But there has to be some trade off, I frankly not seeing any for this new experience.

Holy forking slowness..... God forbid if you have add or remove a bunch of columns cuz it'll take about a day and a half. I remove a field, go work on something else, then come back and do another one cuz it takes an incredible amount of time to load.

Lighting reports and ridiculously slow and annoying! I had been using the Classic reports in Lighting, but now if it hit Edit in Classic, it just spins. So I guess I too will be switching to Classic for running report.

Reports module is very slow and is one of the primary reasons why I have difficulty convincing users to switch to lightning. This needs major performance improvements.

This product is unusable. I end up using workbench for almost all of my reporting needs, and cringe every time I need to use report builder.

This is painflly slow in Chrome so I have to switch to Firefox to make an reports but Dashboards will not work in firefox so I have to switch back to Chrome for that. So annoying that I cant just work in what is the preferred browser.

This issue is driving me insane! We are a report heavy business and I literally would prefer to build Excel spreadsheets to avoid using lightning report builder which completely defeats the purpose of this multi-million dollar Salesforce implementation we just did. Not happy!
