Admin Control Over Search Top Results

Global Search - Desktop

Admins need control over which objects show up in "Top Results" for their users during Global Search. I know that Global Search analyzes a User's search behavior and decides which objects to display, but Admins need to be able to have input as well.

We use child objects to segment our Accounts. So, my users will search by a term on the child record. However, they're only using the child record to find the parent Account. Since they never click into the child record, Global Search has stopped listing it in Top Results EVEN THOUGH THE TAB IS ON THEIR APP. This is infuriating to both my Users and to me. As an Admin, I should have the power to say that an object should be displayed in Top Results every time, no matter what.

Hi all - I have an update on the timing of this idea. Unfortunately, we will not be able to deliver this feature on the previously estimated timeline of Spring ’21. Our new estimate for this feature is Winter ’22.

We understand that this news is likely disappointing to many of you who are eager to see this feature in production. We’re disappointed too, but want to make sure we provide a holistic solution that works for all admins and aligns well with our exciting roadmap for Search. While working on this, we learned that this solution requires more thorough thinking and analysis of implications with our new Einstein Search (currently in Beta). Having said that, this idea remains our top priority.

We are always striving to serve you in the best possible way - our community is one of the most important assets and your voice is always shaping our roadmap. While we work on this, if we have any other significant updates, we’ll post them here. This would be amazing on the profile level! Tying this to tabs isn't realistic since there are SO many apps that aloow creating custom tabs. The SF only tab is antiquated.

In large orge it must be configurable which objects to show - not just "holistics" or "heuristics". There are many reasons. E.g. some objects might be duplicate because AppExchange packages are installed and the user gets confused by having the same object twice (consider having Opportunities or Products standard and from an installed CPQ) as well knowing that a search term might occour in several objects (e.g. as a code, as a log, as a text) but some are notably more important than others, but SF insists on displaying unimportant objects first.

An Admin should be able to set the list of usable object (per profile, per set or similar) and then additionaly a user might be able to "pin" the order of these predefined available object.

If leaving the rest to a "+other or +all" is open to discussion, but it may happen that all important stuff now is "hidden" of a search!

This is a serious concern to my users too. Any new user onboarded on lightning platform uses Global Search features to start with. It doesn't return expeted result and also gives very misleading message 'Don't give up'

Global search should work by selecting 'ALL' in th drop down and it should return matching results from all objects and all fields (user having permission to)

Users should not have to teach search how to work, or try to find important objects. They will give up, for example, if they type a number expecting to find an Order or a Product and the only object they get to start with is a list of Contacts. POOR DESIGN.

Thank you, Trailblazers, for helping us shape our product roadmap. You prioritized this feature and we’re starting to work on it. During our roadmap planning, where we tested our initial assumptions and confirmed what dependencies and we learned that this feature is more complex than we originally thought. We’ve updated the estimated general availability of this feature to Spring '21.

Missed the window for the survey but I hope this one gets voted in. We need to be able to priortize objects that should show up in top results especially at the very top. I read this https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=search_relevancy.htm&type=5 and understood the frequency logic. However, we should be able to intervene this arbitrarily if needed.

A feature inspired by this idea is up for consideration in the September 2019 cycle of Prioritization:

Admin control over search top results - Provide the ability to ensure search results in top results include results from specific objects. Admins could specify a maximum of three objects for inclusion. The order in which objects are presented will continue to be determined by machine learning.
