Ability to edit new contact record details when adding to SF from Inbox

Salesforce Inbox

We have contacts being added to Salesforce without real first and last names because we are unable to edit the records before pushing them to SF using Inbox. Currently, if there has not been a contact card added in the user's email inbox or CRM, Inbox/SF only references the email. It requires us to login to SFDC and update the contact details, which is not exactly the best use case for Inbox if we have to manually enter the records. I  would like the ability to edit the contact details directly inside Inbox/Outlook so we don't have to login to SF if we don't need to for this purpose.

Great news, the ability to edit record details (for Contacts, as well as all other records!) in the side panel is now GA for all desktop users in both the new Outlook integration (GA as of Winter '19) and Gmail integration (GA as of Spring '19). Winter '19 release notes for the Outlook integration and Spring '19 release notes for the Gmail integration detail the new integrations, and this help article for Gmail users shows you how to move to the new integration with Inbox. You can now inline edit all records directly within the Outlook or Gmail sidepanel.
