Reminder Approval Request Email to Approvers

Apex & Visualforce

In SFDC we have Approval Processes where Approval requests are sent to Approvers via email and then approvers can approve/reject the request via email reply. Sometimes when Approval request is sent to approver and approver forgot to approve the request then approval request will get pending from long time, so there is a need of sending Reminder emails to Approver.

I tried to implement reminder email functionality by custom apporach like I created a Apex Class which queried on SFDC's Standard objects ProcessInstance & ProcessInstanceWorkItem and get All Pending Approval reuests. After geting all Pending Approval requests, I was able to send reminder emails to the approvers but the only problem I was getting is my reminder email was not supporting email reply, approver was not able to approve/reject the request by replying to the email. I thought an Idea of creating one email service and one email handler class for handling the email response but again SFDC doesn't provide us write access on standard objects(ProcessInstance & ProcessInstanceWorkItem).

There should be either reminder email functionality in the Approval Process or it should give write access ProcessInstance objects so Remider emails functionality can be achieved.
