Default Lookup Fields in Global Actions

Accounts & Contacts

When, for example, creating a Contact from an Account using 'Global Actions', it would be helpful to have the option to default the Account Lookup field with the Account the Global Action was initiated from. 

It is currently blank, making the User lookup the same Account they launched the Global Action from.

    Global actions have no concept of context, because they can appear on any page and they don't know if they're being called from (for example) an Account or a Case.

    If you want to pass in information from the parent object, go to Custom Buttons, Links and Actions on the object and create an object-level action. Then override the global action list for the page layouts for that object to include that action.

    In addition to automatically associating the child record with the parent, the object-level allows you to set predefined values for the action that reference field values on the parent. For example, if you always want the name of the opportunity to be the account name + today's date, you can set that as a predefined value.
