API Only Platform User

Our implementation is based primarily on Platform accessible objects.  We'd like to grant API access to one of our partners and don't need them to have access to the non-Platform CRM objects.  We'd prefer not to give them log in access to our user environment.  It would be great if we were able to add an API Only User on a Platform license.

    Just trying to get clarification here - when you say that you would prefer not to give them login access to your user environment - do you mean that
    1. they shouldn't be able to see other users?
    2. that they shouldn't be a user and therefore have an authentication?
    3. that they can only login through the API?
    What parts of the user environment are you trying to secure or hide from this type of user? What should the partner have access to in this case?

    If you had a user where API Only User permission was enabled and you could have object permissions to any custom object but no permissions to standard objects. Would that meet your use case? 

    If so, would a full salesforce license user with a custom profile that has this configuration meet your need or is this a license/cost issue as well and if the latter, what would you pay for such a license?
