Make salesforce content downloadable only - no preview

We need the ability to share documents to our portal users, but only allow them to download the document. Preview the document should not be allowed. This feature should be a setting of Salesforce CRM Content, or a check of Content Permissions to show/hide preview, or at a minimum, a feature of Page Layout to enable/disable preview pane.

Yes, would be very helpful as some things do not fully render in the previews. This is not very helpful when customer facing content is in the media.

This should be a user preference. If a PDF isn't searchable and the links don't work, 90% of the time, the user will download anyway. Just a waste of time and a click to have preview.

This would help the user experience and avoid extra clicks and downloading a file to a users desktop.

This is particularly troublesome when hosting PDF files that have hyperlinks. The hyperlinks do not work in preview mode, but everything else generally looks good, so the recipient just assumes that the hyperlinks are broken. It seems that Salesforce is trying to be proactive and helpful, but in some cases that actually makes the situation worse.

This is critical for my financial client. Not acceptable that we cannot turn off the automatic generation and display of preview images. It is so close to the original that it fools the customer (and sender) into thinking it is the original, but actually the text may be improperly rendered in PDFs. From both legal compliance and client relationship perspectives, the idea that Salesforce decides to make their own imperfect copy of your file and forces you to show that to the customer is unacceptable. Also, this only happens when you send from Lightning not from Classic.
For now I am telling customer they must either send mass email from Classic or else store the PDF outside of Salesforce. It is so braindead and cynical of SF. People will not buy the higher level marketing cloud or Pardot just because List Email is so bad. Preview has lots of known issues so let us turn it off already!!!

I am running into content file preview issues with a PDF that I have created a public link for. I have tried to regenerate the file, however, it won't work. Instead of displaying a blank page that says "no preview available" with a small download button (see below), I would like the file to be automatically downloaded. Along with having it be download only, could we have a setting to enable automatic download? Having a blank page with a small download button makes it seem like there is an error with the file.

At least if Salesforce can allow us to control Content Preview from new Content Download Handler.

I agree with the option for other reason which may be addressed in other fashions as well. A preview is not counted in any analytics so if 100 people preview the file and get use from it and only 10 download it, we are unable to capture the 100 previews in analtycs for content value purposes.

We want to remove the Preview window, as well. Salesforce does not display some of our Content correctly in the Preview window and we want o remove the Preview or mask it with JS and place a message that informs clients that they may preview by clicking the download tab.

No luck yet. Salesforce comments out our JS on the library page in Communities. We are still looking for an option.
