Limit the Visibility of a Custom Button Based on Profile

Authorization & Permissions

When creating a new custom button, we should be able to limit who can see it. For buttons on page layouts, this is not a problem because we can assign page layouts to profiles. However, for buttons on views, search results and tags we need to have this functionality. Without it we won't be able to fully leverage any of the custom button features in these locations.

With the Winter '21 release, Dynamic Actions for configuring and adding visibility rules in the highlights panel for record pages is now GA for custom objects and Beta for all standard objects for Lightning Experience! Dynamic Actions for Lightning on Mobile record pages for custom objects is also available as a Beta in Winter '21.

Bringing Dynamic Actions to highlights panel and record pages is just the start, and there are additional action contexts that we are planning to bring the power of Dynamic Actions next. These include related lists, which we are planning to bring customization for into the Lightning App Builder, including dynamic actions capabilities for related list header actions, as as well as the activity and chatter composer quick actions and listview header actions.

For the short-term roadmap, we are planning to GA the Winter '21 Beta functionalities in Spring '21, and start targeting additional action contexts in Summer '21. We have heard a lot of requests for dynamic actions on listview header and global actions, and I am definitely taking this feedback into account for prioritization. Summer '21 planning is still underway, so I will have more to share in a month or two. (Safe harbor for roadmap discussion)

I hope everyone is as excited as I am around all the work around Dynamic Actions! Please try it out and if you have any questions please post in our Trailblazer group for Dynamic Forms and Actions and feel free to tag me directly as the product manager for the feature.
