Make the DataLoader be On-Demand

Data Import & Integration

The Apex DataLoader is such a simple user-interface it seems like a good candidate to be an on-demand application itself. Would be great if there were a standard DataLoader tab (or Apex Builder area) in all instances of Salesforce that could be controlled by an Admin. The DataLoader wizard would be a fairly straightforward web wizard: upload a csv file (to a temp directory on the server), user picks a Salesforce object, user maps it or uploads a map file, user clicks a button to kick the job off. CSV file gets purged after job completes. Making it on-demand accomplishes a few things: 1) Much faster loads -- use server-side SQL rather than going thru the API 2) No client installs -- "the end of software" 3) Easy to Admin -- use profiles to control who has access rights to the dataloader tab/wizard Considerations: 1) Only for CSV loads, not JDBC 2) In order to schedule, API support would need to be created to upload data/map files and execute jobs from a remote scheduler 3) CSV file sizes capped in order to scale, <10 MB for example
