Track who viewed content in preview and full screen mode

Chatter & Files

In order to track what content our salesforce is using, it would be great to track the number of pre-views and full-views. We find that our salesforce is not needing to download content as much since they have the preview and full-screen view, but it is hard to determine the usage. We have few downloads because of this and that does not help us determine if people are using the content.

With the Winter '15 release, you can now use Event Log Files to understand organizational trends.
The ContentTransfer event type contains a field called TRANSACTION_TYPE that refers to how a user interacted with a file:
    • VersionDownloadAction and VersionDownloadApi represent downloads via the user interface and API respectively.
    • VersionRenditionDownload represents a file preview action.
    • saveVersion represents a file that’s being uploaded.
