Private Accounts - with Search Facility Only

Operational Reporting

Currently to give users access to check if an account already exists you have to have the company setting as Public Read Only This is a problem as it means reports can be created that literally lists every customer in It would be great if you could set the security level to Private but still give access to search accounts and advise of the owner, so you can pass the call across. This then means you are not creating duplicate accounts, but also managing the security of your data and stopping profiles with report access to only report on accounts they own. Thanks

The assumption in using this report is that you have a private account model, and reps who focus on a few acccounts. The reps are creating new accounts rarely, and one of the things they want to check is that somebody else isn't already owning that account. So they can report, look for similar accounts, and then they create it if it isn't already there. If it is, they can see the owner, and contact them. It might be less time consiming to use search, but the search always obeys the security setting.
