Lead Assignment Rule that assign based on Accounts and Contact Owner

Accounts & Contacts

Currently, we set up our Territories based on location (i.e. phone or address). We are changing that and moving to a “Named Account” Structure. Where Operations will assign accounts based on the name of the account (i.e. fortune list). In order to do this we will have to change the lead assignment rule structure. I personally, could write each query and filter out with contains and equals to names and deliver the lead to the correct person. But has you could see this would become a massive web of code to manage. I’m thinking of a more streamlined approach that would pull the information directly from salesforce account record to assign the lead. For example: a Lead comes in for IBM Services, and Joe owns the IBM Services account. We would use a search query to locate the account and assign the lead to the account owner. Then if an existing account is not there it would revert to the territory assignment rules. Has anyone built this...Anybody need it.
