Why is it such a big deal to implement...when a call is made to use the conversion rate, it uses the same mechanism that is already build out for opportunity. I really dont see why this wasnt implemented this way to begin with it should have been just a universal method.

This is becoming more of an issue for us. In particular, I'd like to see this enabled for Steelbrick (Salesforce CPQ) Quote, now that it's a part of Salesforce' product suite. However, it really doesn't make sense to limit this to certain objects.
What's the rational behind not putting this on the roadmap? We need more of an explanation...

This needs to be addressed as a matter of importance. We purchased Salesforce on the basis that we could merge all our systems into one, but how can we if such a simple thing like currency is not being address properly so that totals can be added up correctly to the $ and then £ (or whichever way round the company needs it to be). A major flaw in my opinion "yes it can handle currencies" is how we were sold the system! The only way I can see it possibly working in a company is if you had the currency set to the current exchange rate and then saved the reports as you went along. That way the orders would be in the system, but if you needed exact converted amounts then you'd have to refer back to the saved reports.

This is so important. Everytime you change the exchange rate, it changes all past historical orders. How can you ever keep an accurate record of past orders? Salesforce needs to address this. It is a major flaw. The last update was a year ago. When will the next one be? Is anyone using an app to get around this issue?

Chris, doing your own implementation you will not be able to use the forecast tool, which also ignores the dated exchange rate. So, in other words, either:
- SForce delivers this feature without which the multi-currency cannot be called in such way;
- SForce allows specifying a field different from the Amount field in forecast reports so that we can implement logic that calculates that field based on the dated exchange rate.
Of course the first option would be the best one. I think we have to ask for this in a stronger way. Better if recruiting other SForce users in our network. This is a call to anyone who voted this idea.
