I end up flipping back to Classic every time I need to merge contact and/or accounts. It is just too much of a hassle in Lightning and half the time it doesn't even recognize the duplicates as duplicates. And this is with multiple matching rules associated with the objects. It is inefficient and I wish they could have maintained the method from Classic.

How to merge Accounts was one of the first questions I got from our Business Development Reps once we started the transition to Lightning. This is basic functionality that is frequently used. In Classic, the link to Merge Accounts was right there on the Accounts Tab. Salesforce moved similar items like Mass Delete and Mass Transfer to Setup. Please consider adding the same per object functionality in Setup for Merging. We already have the standard duplicate rules active in Salesforce and they are not finding Account duplicates. I am in process of adding more custom rules, but we should always have the option for a human to make a better decision than a bunch of machine rules. The rules only work if we have covered every possibility....

Throwing in my $0.02 that it would be strongly preferred to be able to merge accounts in the same way it works with Classic...without having to switch to classic. My org runs on Lightning, and I field dozens of merge requests per week. Would love to hear an ETA for when it makes it through.

One of the, many, reasons that I rarely use Lightning. Our users have been told to use Lightning, but then I wind up getting requests to merge accounts. Here's a direct quote from a user in Australia who was trying to merge two accounts, which are definitely duplicates, but, not according to Lightning:
"I can’t find the tools list on the home page; from looking at help and some SFDC videos it looks like I’ll need administrator access to merger Accounts and Contacts.
Please let me know if I am looking in the wrong place."
Since I will not be making him a System Administrator, which wouldn't help anyway, I can either tell him to switch to Classic, which I'm probably not supposed to do, update the records so that Lightning sees them as duplicates, or merge them myself.
