Totally agree that this needs to happen. We have sensitive data that doesn't need to end up in our Chatter feeds, but we want to allow some groups to be able to use Chatter for certain objects only. It would be great to be able to turn of funtionality by user or at the Home page.

I tried hamayoun khan's suggestion and it's a good work around.
I would love to see something from salesforce related to this. There is a "chatter internal user" option in profiles, but it's greyed out. I have one division that can benefit from chatter and another that does not so I'd want to hide it from the latter division.

There's a million reasons why this makes sense. Speaking from Federal clients perspective, this is especially true. This will happen - I'm sure - but the faster it does, the sooner this will take further root in the federal gov as there are a number of special situations that need to be addressed.

This is important to us. Please make this available. We have different business units using Salesforce and not all of them want to see Chatter and in fact some are opposed to their teams even having access to it. As an administrator I'm stuck with one business unit that is a big fan of Chatter and the other business unit demanding that it be turned completely 100% off. How do I handle that without this feature?
