Would like the ability to format numeric fields as well (especially to remove commas). Seems pretty sinmply to have a format option when creating the data attribute and using that format on page layouts and reports, etc...
... but this is now a 12 year discussion - not holding my breath for a resolution any time soon... -

Yes we need this as well. We use the year as a cycle so 2018 is a cycle and 2019 is a cycle and we need this as a number field for sorting but the comma ruins everything. We cannot use a Date because it is not user friendly and a text lacks sorting functionality. It is annoying that we need two fields a text field for users and a formula number that mirrors the text for math but that is also flawed in some coding use cases. -

It says it is in 'Product Team Review' and they'll respond in '2-4 months'
Conveniently for SF, it dosn't say when that process started - there's no indication in the comments as to when it changed to this status - although there is at least one comment from 10 months ago saying it was in 'Product Team Review' back then - certainly more than 2-4 months!
The ticket has been here for 11 years - what are the odds we'll come back here in another year, and it will still be in 'Product Team Review' with a promise that there will be a response in '2-4 months'? -

This is a fundermental requirement, the work arounds are a waste of extra fields when it should be possible on the number field you create.
