Jeez 11 years and being implemented. Don’t know if I should be excited this is finally being done, or embarrassed for Salesforce that it taken soooo long to implement this. I’m leaning towards embarrassment!

Matthew Kozak, sorry for that. There have been some confusion with the support. You still should be able to get your nomination submitted, but we will not be able to activate it until Winter '19 is released to your sandbox org. 9/18 indicates the date when we will be able to enable the pilot.

I made necessary updates and support should be able to submit your nomiation now.

"Thank you for contacting Salesforce Technical Support. My name is Diane and I recently received your case number 19890257 regarding your request to enable this pilot feature Winter 19: Where is this used (Pilot).

I regret to inform you however, the pilot nomination is not yet available at this time because, the nomination will start on Winter 19.

Please logged again a ticket on Winter 19 and we'll gladly assist you.

Upon checking, the pilot nomination start date is on 9/18/2018.

I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and I hope for your understanding on this matter.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. Otherwise, if I can now close this case as out of scope."

Whoa. So, ignored for 10 years, then NO PLANS TO IMPLEMENT and now IN PILOT/BETA (head spinning).
Sure would be nice for customers to be a more informed and legit part of the (and MUCH FASTER) process, but here's hoping Salesforce is FINALLY "getting it" - and not just for this idea.
    Woo-hoo!

Diane Jacobson updated my original comment - you will need to reach out to support to get you nominated for this pilot. It can be only enabled in Sandbox and DE orgs.

I'm excited to announce that this feature is coming in Winter '19 in Pilot.

You can find more information in Winter '19 Release notes:
    https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter19/release-notes/rn_forcecom_fields_where.htm

    More info on the Pilot:
We provide the Where is This Used? button for custom fields to selected customers through a pilot program that requires agreement to specific terms and conditions. For information on enabling this feature, contact Salesforce. The Where is This Used? button for custom fields is subject to change and isn’t generally available unless or until Salesforce announces its general availability in documentation or in press releases or public statements. We can’t guarantee general availability within any particular time frame or at all. Make your purchase decisions only on the basis of generally available products and features.
Note: Pilot can only be enabled in Sandboxes and Developer Edition orgs

Thank you all for all of your votes and comments!

This is much needed by SF Admins.  We spend an ungodly amount of time hunting down this information.  If it was readily available in the field details, it would enable us to do some significant clean up in our org.
